It’s hard when you have many health problems. It beats you down, physically and mentally. Sometimes, when this happens, we tend to shut down because of all the stress that rains down on us, especially when a person is just 15 years old. Courtney Thompson is one such person. She had to stop going to school and spend most of her time divided between the hospital and her room.
Courtney was diagnosed with more than 15 chronic illnesses, autoimmune disorders, and various other health conditions. To keep her from getting bored at home, she decided to foster animals. For six years, Courtney was a foster mom to more than a hundred dogs. None of them stayed until she met a Pit Bull named Indigo.
Like two peas in a pod
Indigo was like any of the other hundred dogs that came before her, or so Courtney thought. But as she spent more time with the gentle pooch, she realized that the two of them were alike in several ways. For one, Indigo was a dog that, like her, had health problems. Courtney thought that Indigo was perfectly healthy, but apparently, she is not.
While staying with Courtney, the shelter took Indigo back because she needed to see a vet. The dog had a heart murmur and had severe heart problems. She also had several issues, like heat intolerance and requiring constant rest. Problems that Courtney also experiences. She saw Indigo as her mission to help her overcome her conditions.
With so many health issues, the shelter was ready to take back Indigo from Courtney to put her to sleep. By that time, Courtney had already fallen in love with Indigo and was getting prepared to adopt her officially. She had already submitted her papers. But when she learned that the shelter was considering putting Indigo to sleep, she panicked.
Courtney even made a video showing how active and lively Indigo was. She wanted to show them that Indigo deserved to be alive and be loved. But thankfully, they didn’t need to show it. The shelter approved her application and gave Indigo to her. The two will now forever be together, giving each other the love and support that they both need.
