It’s difficult to make some dogs do something that they don’t really want to do. If your dog hasn’t undergone training, you probably know this already. Dogs can get quite stubborn sometimes. This can result to a lot of frustration for some dog owners. For one dog in Alabama, his stubbornness to die has made people think he has nine lives, like a cat. He has also impressed many people with his fighting spirit.
The dog is called Lazarus. An ode to the biblical figure who rose from the dead after three days. Without a doubt, the name suits him very well. For this dog has gone through three episodes in his life that should have ended it. The last one was the worst, but as it turned out, it was the one that opened up a whole new opportunity in his life.
Third strike and he is still not out
The first time that Lazarus’ life was in danger was when he was hit by a car. He was a stray dog, and this is not uncommon with them. The second threat was a bad case of heartworms. Parasites are staples to homeless dogs. They wander the streets and don’t get regular medical care. In most cases, with street dogs, heartworms can be fatal.
The third one was the most direct and with the most intent. By all means, he should have succumbed to it. You see, Lazarus was caught and placed in a shelter. And eventually, he as put in the list of the dogs to be euthanized. He was given the right amount of dosage based on his weight. Everyone thought he was gone. But when the people came back the next day, Lazarus was alive.
Not only was he alive, but he was active and playing around. News of his story went around. Impressed by his resilience and willingness to live, Lazarus was taken by a foster home. From there, a family has adopted him and given Lazarus a better life in a new home.
